Job Summary
The ESD Technician is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) control programs to protect sensitive electronic components and equipment. This role ensures compliance with ESD standards through testing, audits, training, and proper maintenance of ESD-safe environments within manufacturing, assembly, or laboratory facilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain ESD control procedures according to company and industry standards (e.g., ANSI/ESD S20.20).
  • Perform regular ESD audits and inspections of workstations, equipment, flooring, and personnel grounding systems.
  • Test and verify ESD protection equipment such as:
    • Wrist straps
    • Heel grounders
    • ESD mats
    • Ionizers
    • Grounding systems
  • Maintain records of ESD testing, calibration, and compliance reports.
  • Investigate ESD-related failures or incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Train employees on proper ESD handling procedures and awareness.
  • Support manufacturing or engineering teams in establishing ESD-safe work areas.
  • Ensure proper labeling and handling of ESD-sensitive devices (ESDs).
  • Maintain and calibrate ESD testing instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Technical diploma or associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of electrostatic discharge principles.
  • Experience working in electronics manufacturing, semiconductor, or PCB assembly environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/ESD S20.20 or IEC 61340 standards is an advantage.
  • Ability to use ESD test equipment and measurement tools.
