The Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems supporting high-tech electronics manufacturing facilities. This role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and compliance of HVAC, cleanroom, process cooling, and utility systems critical to manufacturing operations. The position requires strong technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership in driving efficiency, sustainability, and uptime.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems including HVAC, cleanroom environments, chilled water, compressed air, vacuum, and exhaust systems.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of facilities systems supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for mechanical infrastructure.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for system failures or performance issues.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, EHS, and quality teams to ensure facilities meet production and regulatory requirements.
- Manage capacity planning and support factory expansions, tool installations, and process changes.
- Oversee contractors, vendors, and service providers for projects and maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards (e.g., OSHA, ASHRAE, NFPA).
- Lead energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives, including utility optimization and cost reduction projects.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation including P&IDs, SOPs, and specifications.
- Support audits and inspections, ensuring readiness and timely closure of findings.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians; provide technical leadership within the facilities team.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in facilities/mechanical engineering within high-tech manufacturing (electronics, semiconductor, or similar).
- Strong experience with cleanroom environments and critical utility systems.
- Proven track record in project management and system optimization.
- Deep knowledge of HVAC systems, psychrometrics, and cleanroom standards (ISO classifications).
- Experience with chilled water systems, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and piping systems.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and automation controls.
- Understanding of process utilities such as CDA, nitrogen, vacuum, and exhaust systems.
- Proficiency in engineering tools (AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Leadership and mentoring capability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience in semiconductor fabs or advanced electronics manufacturing.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and energy management systems.
- Six Sigma or Lean certification.
Working Conditions
- May require on-call support for critical system issues.
- Ability to work in cleanroom and industrial environments.
- Occasional travel for vendor visits or project support.
